Krama Sunrise is a social enterprise that gives you an experience of life through the eyes of young Cambodians. Our day tours around Phnom Penh connect travelers to the passion, food, language and rituals of friendly local people. Every tour takes a Cambodian young person a step closer to transforming his/her life through on the job training and employment with Krama Sunrise.
We’re unlike most other tour companies. We work directly with local communities to ensure your visit brings real benefits and does no harm. When you travel with us you contribute to the development of Cambodian young people. In addition, our company will actively develop tour products in collaboration with local host communities to ensure that they benefit from the partnership and so that customers enjoy an improved experience.
We offer a number of day tours in and around Phnom Penh, Cambodia. Every tour provides an opportunity for a young person to share their culture with you as well as gain valuable skills to gain sustainable employment in the tourism industry. Tour experiences include
– shopping and eating at local markets
– home cooked meals at a local home
– local transport
– family friendly tours
– local customs and language learning
– hands-on local arts and crafts experiences
We are born out of a desire to create ethical travel experiences for people who care about the people of the places they visit. We are excited to build a sustainable tourism model where local people and communities benefit from your visit. Since 2014, we have been crafting a range of tours designed with benefits to all involved. A number of young people have been instrumental in shaping our company today through participation in our initial guide training, co-designing about our products and marketing materials. In early 2016, we formally registered as a Cambodian business through the Ministry of Commerce. Today we are building a sustainable business. We exist to give young people aged 18 – 25 the opportunity of vocational training and meaningful employment that they would not otherwise have access to in Cambodia. In addition, we believe in working closely with local communities to ensure that they are benefiting from tourism also. All staff and suppliers are compensated fairly. We are committed to educating our customers about responsible travel, including asking them to abide by our child protection policy.
Krama Sunrise is majority Cambodian owned and operated. We design and plan our tours with local people – guides and hosts. Our tours are focused on promoting Cambodian culture and teaching tourists how to respect Cambodians and their traditions. Local hosts, suppliers and staff are paid fairly and are offered fair working conditions. The company’s mission is to provide paid training and employment to Cambodian young people who would not otherwise access the formal tourist industry.
Majority profits remain in Cambodia. 51% of profits are re-directed to the social mission.
We run small tours (maximum 10 people) and encourage tourists to purchase locally made products. Meals offered use locally sourced produce. We do not organise tours that involve exploitation of animals eg. no elephant rides. Use of disposable bottles etc are kept to a minimum
Customers are educated about protecting the environment, not littering, preserving water etc
