Five14 Adventures is an ethical trekking and adventure travel agency in Nepal. We work for justice, adventure, and transformation in Nepal by partnering with local communities for local development. Not only do we provide our clients with the opportunity to explore the Himalayas, experience Nepali culture, and make memories that will last a lifetime, we contribute to the communities to which we travel by helping start up small businesses, running educational seminars, and contributing to their well-being.
Five14 provides a safe, satisfying and fulfilling experience for visitors, available to all without discrimination by gender, race, disability, or in other ways. They offer open and transparent information and to their customers about how their visit benefits local people. They ensure that tourists to respect local socio-cultural norms and the economic and environmental priorities of the destination community and that tourists pay a fair market price.
We partner with local community leaders to improve the well-being of the community. First, we consult with local leaders to determine if tourism is desired in the community. Then we train locals in creating a small hosting business (operating a homestay, tea house, or guiding), then we have small grants for locals to begin these businesses.
We contribute to the health, education and livelihood of our partner communities by seeking the community leadership for guidance and buy-in. Nothing is implemented unless the community desires partnership for a project. We also run educational programs in these communities centered around family medical and social health, sustainable tourist practices and cultural preservation.
We maximise the contribution of tourism to the economic prosperity of the local area, including the proportion of visitor spending that is retained locally.
We seek a widespread and fair distribution of economic and social benefits from tourism throughout the local community, including improving opportunities, income and services available to the poorest.
We strengthen the number and quality of local jobs created and supported by tourism, including the level of pay, conditions of service and availability to all without discrimination by gender, race, disability or in other ways.
We intentionally seek out families and individuals who are at high risk for exploitation to operate tourism-related business.
Our purpose is to contribute to the well-being of our partner communities. We push as much of the profit as possible to the local businesses and employees, as well as paying into local community-improvement funds that are managed by local stake-holders.
We aim at the protection of the environment and to have a healthy life, free from contamination.
We support the conservation of natural areas, habitats, and wildlife, and minimize damage to them.
We minimise use of scarce or non-renewable resources in the development of tourism facilities and to minimise pollution of air, water, land caused by the generation of waste by tourism enterprises and visitors
We educate all of our guides and participants in “Leave no Trace” principles. We also educate local communities in environmentally sustainable practices, such as limited forestry, waste reduction and disposal, and water protection.
We also evaluate our impact on the local environment when new trails are established and either seek areas where impact is limited or limit use of the trails and area.
