Equality in Tourism are organising an alternative conference: Walking, Sharing and Learning with Local Communities in Turkey.
Attendees will stay with Turkish women, in Anatolia, in their homestays, enriching and positively affecting their lives (and attendees) while debating with the underlying causes of gender inequities in tourism. Attendees will visit local women’s initiatives, talking and discussing as they walk considering in what circumstances does tourism bring positive change for women and how can these be replicated. After sharing ideas and research in creative ways, they will debate strategies aimed at addressing existing gender imbalances in relation to pay, promotion and access to decision making positions in the tourist sector, along with policies and actions needed to bring about change.
