Campaign work

Our projects are closely tied into the campaign work that we do.

Projects

Tourism Concern works with partners in the South who are fighting for communities that are struggling with the impacts of tourism development. We support the work of NGOs and communities who are finding their own solutions for tourism-related poverty and exploitation.

We join our partners in campaigning for change and to ensure that, however marganlised they may be, local voices are heard by those who have power over their livelihoods and their futures.

Fair trade in tourism

Tourism Concern has been working for many years on how the benefits of this wealthy industry can be distributed fairly and to ensure that everyone, including the poor and vulnerable communities who are increasingly being marginalised, can benefit from tourism. We are currently working with the International Fairtrade Labelling Organisation on the potential to develop a Fairtrade label in tourism.

Tourism and Post Tsunami Displacement

Tens of thousands of tsunami victims are still struggling in camps or temporary accommodation. Tourism Concern is asking why. Working with partners in India and Sri Lanka, and supported by Big Lottery, we are looking into the role of tourism while strengthening local communities' ability to challenge unsustainable tourism developments.
