Campaigns

Putting Tourism to Rights

Thousands of people all over the world endure abuses of their basic human rights due to tourism. Our campaign is calling on governments and industry to more to respect and protect the human rights of destination communities and industry employees.

Tsunami of Tourism

We are working with survivors of the Asian tsunami to protect their land and livelihood rights, and help ensure against displacement from their homes to make way for tourism.

Burma

Tourism to Burma provides vital financial support to the brutal military dictatorship. Burma’s tourism infrastructure was built using forced labour and caused the displacement of over a million people. Tourism Concern is campaigning for tour operators and tourists to stay away until democracy has been restored.

International volunteering

Volunteering overseas on development projects is rapidly growing in popularity and more and more tour operators are offering ‘voluntourism’ packages. This raises serious questions about how such projects are managed and how the benefits are being shared.

Save Bimini

Tourism Concern has joined with local and international groups to halt the development of a mega-resort on the small island of Bimini in the Bahamas. The Bimini Bay Resort has caused massive destruction to the fragile marine ecosystem, threatening the livelihoods of local people.
