Tips from other travellers

Many websites now offer advice for travellers, from travellers.
We highlight here two organisations successfully growing an international community of mindful travellers - but others may exist. We'd love to hear about and from them!

Tripbod

Tripbod originally began as YourSafePlanet in 2007, founded by UCL graduate Sally Broom to test her belief that a direct connection between travellers and locals in destination countries before undertaking a trip led to better travel experiences. It did. Travellers believed that the service gave them personal insights into new places, saw repeat visits to new destinations and ultimately saved them time, money and hassle.

Today, travellers can ‘purchase a day’ with a local at the destination of their choice; experiencing the place in a whole new way and exploring the unbeaten track. Travellers can also be sure that the money goes directly to the host. You can also become a host in your own country!

MyNatour

MyNatour is an online community of travellers, tourists, adventurers and sedentary people (also!) – anyone who believes in a more healthy, unique and responsible tourism. Their website allows users to share ideas, suggestions, destinations, news, images, videos, stories, recipes, maps – as long as all involve unforgettable experiences of sustainable and responsible travelling.

MyNatour also allows you to connect to a local; ask questions and gain advice from those with local knowledge and experience. The best thing about it: all of those offering advice are promoting ethical and responsible tourism!

A variety of other websites, publications or companies offer reliable advice. Check out our useful links section.
