Sign our petition today! We need you to support us in building global pressure on the Indian Government to protect the rights of the indigenous Jarawa people of the Andaman Islands.
Putting Tourism to Rights
Thousands of people all over the world endure abuses of their basic human rights due to tourism. Our campaign is calling on governments and the tourism industry to protect and respect the human rights of destination communities and industry employees.
Empowering Coastal Communities in Southern India
We are working with survivors of the Asian tsunami to protect their land and livelihood rights, and help ensure against displacement from their homes to make way for tourism.
Gap Year and International Volunteering
Volunteering overseas on development projects is rapidly growing in popularity, and more and more tour operators are offering ‘voluntourism’ packages. This raises serious questions about how such projects are managed and how the benefits are being shared. Tourism Concern has developed a standard of good practice for international volunteering.
Other current projects and issues
Save Bimini
Tourism Concern has joined with local and international groups to halt the development of a mega-resort on the small island of Bimini in the Bahamas. The Bimini Bay Resort has caused massive destruction to the fragile marine ecosystem, threatening the livelihoods of local people.
The case on Burma
Tourism Concern has raised awareness about the issues related to traveling to Burma for many years. See our current opinion.
Fair Trade in Tourism
Tourism Concern has been working for many years to find ways for the benefits of this wealthy industry to be distributed fairly, thereby ensuring that everyone, including poor and marginalised communities in destinations, can benefit from tourism.
